Major Donors Dinner Raises Over $100,000 for The Rotary Foundation

On 13th September 2025, Rotary District 9214 (Uganda & Tanzania) witnessed an unforgettable evening of generosity, inspiration, and commitment during the Major Donors Dinner, where over USD 100,000 was raised in support of The Rotary Foundation (TRF).
The evening brought together Rotarians and friends of Rotary to celebrate the spirit of giving, while reflecting on the transformative impact Rotary projects are making across the district. From classrooms in rural communities, to lifesaving maternal health facilities, to clean water systems and peace initiatives, TRF-funded projects are touching thousands of lives every year in Uganda and Tanzania.

Powerful Messages from the Podium

District Governor Christine Kyeyune Kawooya reminded Rotarians of the year’s call to action: “Unite for Good — Together, One Act at a Time.” She emphasized that every act of kindness and every contribution adds up to powerful change. Christine highlighted her signature project — strengthening health systems for maternal and child health — and applauded the partnership with Joint Medical Stores, whose commitment is ensuring the project’s success through the supply of lifesaving medicines and equipment.

Past Trustee of The Rotary Foundation, Geeta Maneek, delivered a stirring message on the meaning of generosity. In her words, “philanthropy is not about the size of the gift, but about the size of the heart that gives it.” She called on Rotarians to give with courage and compassion, noting that “the world is crying for justice, compassion, and opportunity — and if we who are blessed with education, networks, and resources do not rise to meet these cries, then who will?” Her message was both a challenge and an inspiration to act.

Rotary International Director Elect Emmanuel Katongole captured the evening’s spirit by tying generosity to continuity: “Our giving today is not for ourselves, but for the generations to come. When we invest in The Rotary Foundation, we invest in peace, in health, and in a better tomorrow for Africa.” His personal testimony of service and philanthropy inspired the gathering and reinforced the importance of partnerships.
